"As an artist you have complete power over your creations. You compose a scene with as much or as little drama as you like. You choose your media like musical instruments and make it happen. You tell the painting what it should be and in return it reveals everything about you."—Sissi

"Enjoy the Islands" would be a fitting title for each of Sissi Janku's tropical island paintings. Each artwork is your invitation to come to the beach and play.

Sissi was born in Munich, Germany. She graduated from the Academy of Arts in Munich and began working as a Graphic Designer for a German magazine.

In 1984 she fulfilled a childhood dream to visit the Hawaiian Islands. The tropical beauty inspired her artistic passions and she traded places to make Hawaii her home as an artist.

Sissi became a student of John Young in Honolulu. Mr. Young is an internationally acclaimed artist and is highly respected in Hawaii. John encouraged Sissi to paint with energy and strength during their frequent painting sessions together. Her strong, lively colors and rhythmic movements of the pallet knife are just a few hints of his great influence.

Sissi works with oils and watercolors. She has been working as an artist for more than 18 years. She is published by Winn Devon, Seattle, Bruce McGaw Graphics, New York, and 7 North, St. Petersburg, Florida. She divides her time between her studio in Honolulu, Hawaii and her studio on Captiva Island, Florida.

Sissi has earned the appreciation of art lovers everywhere. Her paintings have been commissioned by the Mauni Lani Hotel in Hawaii, the Dai-ichi Hotel in Tokyo, the Plantation Inn in Maui, and the Player's Island in Nevada, and by numerous collectors around the world.

Her paintings are very bright, colorful and fun - an invitation to come to the beach and play!
